What about the brain? …or how one thing leads to another

January 3, 2012

Quick sketch of those little neurons in our brainsI’m having a little wayward thought today. I am fascinated by how our brains work (or sometimes don’t). I got caught up in reading about neural nets and the vast network of neurons in our brains…which led to recognizing a correlation between artists’ drawings of brain activity and Hubble Telescope images. I sorst of imagine space as a macro intelligence and our brains as a micro intelligence. Each houses a deep mystery.

Artists’ drawings of brain neural activity:

Photographs from space:

Photographs of space taken by the Hubble telescope

Don’t these overlap nicely? While I don’t want to paint images like these, they do stimulate a feeling that I try to capture:

So that’s the digression I’m after…where on thing leads to another. I think, as artists, we can use that kind of association to stimulate our imaginations. It’s all part of the same soup.

Hey, Deb! Consider yourself “kicked” (inspiration-wise). I know what you mean about transition. I’ve been in the same boat the last few months. Let me know about what you are doing when you get a chance…

Keep it coming, Reebs. I need all the inspiration I can get. I am in a period of transition and need a kick to take the next step.
